Batteries and Battery Cans

There are variety of power options available for your Nortek instruments. Many applications will require extra power to meet your deployment needs. Some of you may want to replace the standard battery back with a rechargeable pack.

Battery packs can be mounted inside the instrument or they can be external. Both our AWAC and Continental instruments have no space inside the instrument and both use and external battery pack.

Our battery packs are produced by specialist manufacturers and are protected with diodes. Because of the importance of the battery pack for successful deployment and the warranty implications of a failed battery, we do not recommend that you build your own battery packs.

Calculating Battery Requirements

The Nortek software allows you to calculate the anticipated power consumption as a function of your sampling scheme and the planned deployment duration. The predicted power consumption is given in %, where 100% is a complete depletion of a standard 50Wh internal alkaline battery. Where an external battery is used the % scale refers to a 540Wh alkaline battery. If, for example you replace the internal 50Wh battery with a lithium rated at 150Wh, you can plan to use 300% of the nominal battery capacity.
