Our friends at Nortek China have tested and installed the first Vectrinos on a wireless link. Since the hydraulic laboratories in China are often large, it is not always practical to run cables across the models. We believe this new solution will prove practical in a variety of environments

Wireless Vectrino

Vectrino connected to NPort 2150

The integrated system is quick to configure and tests has so far shown the link to be reliable.  The wireless unit (NPort 2150) is connected directly to the serial output of the Vectrino and it communicates with the wireless module in the PC that runs the Vectrino data collection software. The price of Nport 2150 is about US$300.

The NPort W2150 works like a wireless router and is configured with IP address,DNS and so on.  The transmission distance depends on the of the wireless module in the PC but normal operation can be done over 100m. This can be extended to 300m or more by connecting a better-quality wireless modem to the PC.

The Nport W2150 has only one serial port but the Moxa models Nport W2250 and Nport W2004 has 2 or 4 serial ports. The Nport serial products support IBSS mode, which means a laptop running the PolySync data collections software can be used to control two or more Nport connections (i.e. Vectrinos) from the same PC.
