Surface current monitoring buoy platform

In cooperation with NortekUK, Planet Ocean Ltd. has developed a Model VMCB01 real-time surface current monitoring buoy platform. A downward looking Aquadopp profiler provides on-line near surface current profiles to user selectable depths of 10 or 20m below the surface, making it an ideal tool for vessel management or tanker berthing applications.

The system comprises a durable polyethylene 1.2m diameter dual compartment buoy, with stainless steel superstructure, for minimal maintenance. It comes fitted with a solar powered power source, UHF radio telemetry, integral radar reflector and solar powered navigation light as standard. The VMCB01 is both robust and easy to deploy, with the Aquadopp profiler mounted within the hull, for maximum protection during deployment and recovery.

The base station software provides clear compass rose displays of up to three buoys simultaneously, with average speed and direction computed over the top 5m (other ranges on request) of the water column.

Behind this standard real time display screen is a more comprehensive set of displays intended for use in emergency situations, such as oil spills or man overboard.

The first three VMCB01 systems are shortly to be delivered to Turkey for a tanker berthing station.
