wave heights

Posted by Enrique R at May 18. 2008
Hi, my name is Enrique and my english is not very good.

We have made wave observations with de AWAC and the sotware QuickWave MLMST in North of Chile.

-The results for 30 days show only waves heights over 0.5 m. Is it possible or correct this?, if we considerar that de study area is a small bay exposed at NW direction and we hope to obtain waves of small height

-What we can do in order to obtain the Parameters (heights, period and direction) of the total number of wave heights per burts?

I hope that you have understood my questions, Thank you and best regards

Hello Enrique,

Sorry for not seeing your question earlier.

1) Yes it is possible that the wave heights are only 0.5 meters.  This is particularly true if the body of water is enclosed like a bay or lake.  If you want me to take a quick look at your data then you can put it on our ftp server.  Just let me know when you put the file there and what the name is:

ftp://161.58.154.98/pub/incoming/

2)  I am sorry, but I am not sure I understand the second question.  Are you interested in height, period, direction of the individual waves in a wave burst?

kind regards,

Torstein
