Surge, z-coordinates upside down

Posted by Oyvindur at May 19. 2008

Dear Nortek Forum,

I am new to the Surge software and want to  check whether I can use this as a first impression guide, at least...

I am now checking data from a bottom-mounted ADCP.

I have been playing around with Surge  a bit and start to get comfortable with the interface. However, there is one thing I haven't been able to perform yet:

Do I have the possibility to turn the depth axis upside down, so that I start with ~0m in the top and have negative values below.

For the vertical profiles and for the transsect-plots, this would be of great value, to get a first impression similar to 'real life'.

Please let me know how to do this!

Thanks in advance

Oyvindur

Dear Oyvindur,

Surge v1.05 includes a "Depth axis" option in the "Profile" tab of the "View Settings" dialog that allows you to do this.

Oistein

Thank you, Oistein!

I am ok with turning the axis itself, like you suggested. Thank you.

But does the data follow the transition?

It seems like the depths of the contour plot and the vertical profiles stay identical!?!

Is there any trick I did miss?

;)

Hope you can help!

Best regards

Dear Oyvindur,

In order for the axis tick labels to change from distance to depths you must also specify the mounting depth (as a positive number). If it is set to zero you will not see any changes.

Oistein

Dear Oistein,

The axis tick labels are ok now ;)

But to me the DATA in the contour plot (lower left panel) and the  in the vertical profile plot (right panel) don't seem to

change. They seem to retain their shape. Is there a simple trick to also turn these upside down?

Hopeful regards  ;)

Dear Oyvindur,

The 'Depth axis' option does not change the orientation of the data, only the axis labelling. To turn the profile plot upside down you will have to check the 'Downlooking' box in the profile tab of the 'View settings' dialog.

Best regards,
Oistein

In my View-View Settings-Profile submenu, I only have the choice of ticking 'Depth axis' and deciding 'Mounting depth'. I downloaded the software a month ago.

Do I look at the wrong place/ submenu?

Best regards

The downlooking option was included in version 1.05. You can download it from our support pages.
