max. vel. times max.range for HR Aquadopp

Posted by ayal at June 13. 2007
Hello All,

In the HR NDP (1.5 MHz) paper (http://www.nortek-as.com/biblio/N4000-707.pdf) a "rule of thumb number" of 1 m^2/s is given for the product of max. vel. * max. range. What is this number for the 2MHz HR Aquadopp?

Best,
Ayal

Dear Ayal

For the 2 Mhz HR-Aquadopp, the equivalent number is about 0.3 m*m/s.

There are two reasons for the difference:

1) The higher freqency (changes the ratio by 1.5/2 = 0.75)
2) There was an ambiguity resolution scheme in the HR-NDP that has not yet been implemented in the HR-Aquadopp.

We are working on this and we hope to improve the velocity range some time in the early fall.  We just built a specialized 6 MHz system that operates in HR mode (not for ocean applications) and we hope to take the experience from this project and port it over to the profiler <img src=" />;)'>

Best regards,

Sure

Thought there should be a way to up it to 0.75. Will take it
as available in fall (this year...)
