How does the aquadopp current profiler measure the pressure signal, as returned in the .wad files?
I am looking at shallow depths, comparing with other pressure sensors and need to correctly remove atmospheric pressure from the pressure time series so would like the conversion equation if possible

thanks

Dear Oliver

The pressure reading is uncompensated for athmospheric variations.  The ASCII file corresponds to the pressure values (and not dB) as the file heading may lead you to believe.

thanks Atle,

actually i was wondering how the aquadopp current profiler calculates pressure.
does it use salinity and temperature to calculate a density of water, or is it using a constant for water density?
also does it assume hydrostatic pressure or is there a depth correction applied?

thanks!
Oliver

Hi again

We measure pressure (Pa) and we normally output dBar in the ASCII files.  Only in the DW-Aquadopp do we convert to water depth, and when we do, we use the full depth dependent algortithm with variable temperature and a fixed salinity (35).
