Connecting to serial port - Alternatives to 9-pin
(Posted by jeffreym on Nov. 20 2007)
Hi, I have an aquadopp 2 MHz current profiler (side-looking head) that came with a cable to connect to a computer with a 9-pin serial female port. This works fine on my old laptop, but this laptop is now at the end of its life. I would like to deploy the aquadopp using my newer laptop, but this laptop does not have a 9-pin female port. I attempted using a usb to 9-pin adapter cable and a 25-pin to 9-pin adapter, but although the aquapro software detects the presence of these ports, it does not detect that the aquadopp is connected to them and the aquadopp does not respond to breaks over these ports. Do you have any other suggestions for connecting the aquadopp to this computer?
Thanks,
Jeff Muehlbauer

Hi Jeff,
I think your problem is quite common, the 9 pin DSUB is dying these days.
There is a variaty of serial (RS232) to USB available. They differ in both price and quality. We have good experience with one named Aten UC-232A. You can buy it from us by sending a request to inquiry@nortek.no
