Bin Heights in a Profiler

Posted by krosenberger at March 02. 2007
Hi there,
I know I've asked this before, but I can't remember the answer and I want to make sure I'm right.  To determine distance to the center of the first bin, do I add the blanking distance plus one half the cell size, or is it the blanking plus one cell size? I seem to recall the answer is the latter, but looking at the manual, with the overlap between cells it would appear to be the former.

Cheers

Kurt

Dear Kurt,

The correct answer is the latter. The distance to the mid point (or center, if you wish) of the first cell is the blanking plus one cell.

Thanks Ketil,
Just want to make sure my processed files show the correct bin depths/heights. Incedentally, I've got a couple of m-files to create NOAA/EPIC standard netCDF data files with metadata in matlab, if you're interested (and I guess it would help to have someone look it over to make sure I'm doing it right!;)

Cheers

Dear Kurt

Of course we would be interested in your Matlab script  <img src=" />:)'>

Maybe you could put it in this forum thread
