Buoy in the works...

Pictured here is Nortek's Tom Christian Mortensen, whose extensive field experience has aided in developing a buoy solution that is manageable by shorthanded crews and small workboats. The complete buoy is a 1.1 meters in diameter and approximately 55 kg. Power is provided by 5 solar cells and batteries which is sufficient for winter deployments on the light deprived coast of Norway.

building a buoy

The Nortek Online Group continues developing its knowledge and skill set with the deployment of suface buoy outfitted with a 400 kHz Aquadopp Profiler and GPRS modem for data transmission.  The buoy has been delivered to Rauma Group, who are conducting site studies prior to the installation of the nets for a fish farm.  Data is hosted by Nortek and the displayed on the web.  The solution simplifies the responsibilities of the end user who are more focused on easy to undstand data presentation and less on the details of data management and presentation.

This simplified version of the platform can be expanded to include the following sensors through the use of the analog input channels of the Aquadopp Profiler.

  • Conductivity and Temperature
  • Optode / oxygen measurements
  • Optical backscatter / Turbidity
  • Acoustic modem / communication with bottom mounted instruments
