Problems with an AWAC wave file

Posted by Kurt Rosenberger at March 10. 2009

Hi Guys,

We just recovered an AWAC from a 4 month deployment collecting waves, but we had a problem with the external battery pack we were using, and the deployment got cut short. We have data from the instrument, and Quickwave is outputting data, but the AWAC AST program is not  (it creates files, but they are all empty). Can I give you the file to take a look? Thanks

Hi Kurt, we will be pleased to take a look at the file.  If you upload it to the incoming directory found under ftp.nortek-as.com, we can download the file but nobody else can.

One tip: Try setting the start and end time during ASCII data conversion to some time in the 18th and 21st century.  The data conversion routine can have problems if the time and date fields in the *.hdr file are incorrect.

HI Atle,

Thanks - that was the problem. I didn't even notice that the end time was wrong (it was before the start time), and hence, no data was being output. I didn't know you could specify that, so that's helpful. Got my data! Thanks again

Cheers
