How useful are depth measurements on the VMCP?

The AWAC can be turned upside down and used as a vessel mount current profiler (VMCP). At present the centre beam is not used, but the three 25 degree beams measure the distance to the bottom. These have an accuracy of up to 5cm. This means the system can be used as an accurate echosounder in three positions.
This function is already being used in some exciting research into movement of sand dunes over time. We would like to know how many present customers/future customers would use this feature, and if it is worth us putting the same feature on the middle (vertical) beam.
