Laptop USB connection to Vectrino

I am connecting a Nortek Vectrino to my laptop which lacks a serial port to connect to. Instead I have a USB to serial converter, but the software cannot communicate with the Vectrino. Any suggestions?

The command line option '-eb' is to be used with PCMCIA/USB serial port drivers that do not support 'specific byte' events and may fix a problem where the instrument outputs data but nothing appears on the display.

The most recent versions of Nortek software are required for this option. Please check the support area of our web.

Right-click the program shortcut target name, select Properties and append -eb to the target name, e.g. c:\nortek\vector\vector.exe -eb
or
"c:\nortek\vector\vector.exe" -eb

Substitute vector with the name of your software/instrument in the above examples.
See also Command line options.

I am trying to connect to an Aquadopp Profiler to my laptop with Windows XP. I am connecting with an ATEN USB to Serial Converter that came with the profiler, but the software cannot communicate with the Aquadopp. I tried changing the target name as mentioned above so that it ends with -eb, but it keeps telling me the target name is not valid. Also, I made sure to download the most current version of the Nortek software. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Lainey

Dear Lainey

If you get the error message " target name is not valid", it may be that the path written in the properties box is not properly formatted.  Personally, I tend to stick the -eb within the quotation marks - which gives me the same error.
