Problems upgrading AWAC to firmware 3.35

Posted by Urs Neumeier at November 20. 2011

Hello,

We have several AWAC-AST used for 6 month deployments that were running under firmware 3.31 Ice. I wanted to upgrade them to firmware 3.35 before the winter deployment. For some it worked fine, but for one instrument (WPR1431 / WAV5965) after upgrading to firmware 3.35, every command returned an error like:

- command failed, ReadProdCofig (checksum error)

- command failed, ReadAllConfig[138] Prolog communication problem when reading product configuration.

It was impossible to program the instrument or to test it. Finally, I uploaded again the old firmware 3.31 Ice, because we were on sea and had to redeploy the instrument the next day. I am using the AWAC-AST software 1.42.

Does anybody know about this error? And any suggestions of solution that we could try as workaround in 6 months?

Best regards

Urs

Hi Urs,

For some reason it seems that the firmware upgrade caused the hardware configuration in the instrument to be incorrect which is indicated by the checksum error. This configuration is among other things used to identify if a 4 GB Prolog recorder is used. Normally this situation is corrected by performing an "Erase Recorder" from the software, but in the case of the Prolog recorder you also have to send a separate command to disable it.

So if you encounter this problem again you can do the following to correct the problem:
- Open the terminal emulator in software
- Send <break> and make sure the instrument is in command mode
- Send the command DISP (DISable Prolog)
- Exit the terminal emulator
- Erase the recorder (Deployment -> Erase Recorder)

Best regards

Jonas

Hello Jonas,

I shall try your suggestion next April or May (end of current deployment), and report then if it worked.

Best regards

Urs
