Ping, Pulse and Burst

Posted by NGUYEN TAT THANG at March 13. 2009

Dear Atle

Could you please give me detailed explanation about what ping, pulse and burst used in Nortek HR Profiler mean? Sorry I am a newbie and I get confused with these technical terms.

Thank you so much

Best regards

Dear Thang

A ping is a term from military sonars decscribing a short pulse of sound.

A pulse is an acoustic wave train.  It means the same thing as a 'ping' but som people will only use 'ping' about audible sound.

A burst (at Nortek) either mean the same thing as a pulse ("a short burst of sound") or it means a set of data collected at a high sampling rate followed by calm ("collecting data in bursts").
