Risk of instrument overheating in the sun?
I am planning to deploy an side-looking Aquadopp Profiler mounted horizontally in an intertidal location. Is there a risk that the internal instrument temperature get to hot due to sunshine when out of water for correct instrument operation (or degradation risk of rechargeable Li-Ion batteries above ~65°C).
My fieldwork will by in the St-Lawrence Estuary with air temperature in the summer not higher than 25°C, but a general answer may be useful for other users.

Dear Urs
The instrument specification is -5 to 35 degrees for operation and -20 to 45 degrees C for storage. The electronics can take higher temperatures (industrial specifications) but the problem is that the various plastics (epoxy and polyurethane) materials found in the acoustic head, which become soft at elevated temperatures. For this reason, mechanical impact at high temperatures may damage the instrument more easily. Also, hot fluids (>40 degrees) can damage the transducers.
