My external sensor is giving bad data

Posted by Jonas Røstad at November 28. 2008

Hi there,

We are getting some requests saying that the external sensor is giving bad data. I will divide these in two groups.

Accuracy,

I will not discuss this here, but remember to characterize your measurement setup. If you are expecting accurate data you'll have compensate for e.g. voltage drop over the cable (which varies with temperature).

Really bad data

1. Check that the Notek instrument is wired for analog input. The wiring harness of Nortek instrument is label with it's function.

2. Check if the cable is wired right. Unsure of how it should be wired? contact us at inquiry@nortek.no

3. Check that the Nortek instrument is giving the external sensor power. Configure the instrument to measure each second, turn on output power in the deployment planning's advanced page. Measure the voltage from the Nortek instrument. If it isn't obvious where to measure contact us at inquiry@nortek.no

If there isn't power. Check the fuse inside the instrument. There are two fuses inside a Nortek instrument. One 3A on the power input to the Nortek, and one 1A for the Power output for analog sensors. The 1A is the one closest to the black 24pin connector. If this is blown replace it and try again.

4. Apply a controlled voltage to the analog channels. Use a battery or a lab supply and apply a voltage between 0-5 volt. To check if the reading is right the conversion formula between volt and counts is: counts=(Applied voltage)/5V*65536 counts

If nothing of this is helping you we are happy to help you out either via the forum or at inquiry@nortek.no

Good luck

Jonas Røstad
