Calibration of noisy turbulence profile (Signature) with vector in BBL -- is OK?

Hi,

 

I have signature 1000 profile in an estuary of about 10 m and flows of 1 m/s.

I choose too high spatiotemporal resolution and velocity range, and it results in noisy turbulence data (noise caused TKE overestimation by order of magnitude).

If I calibrate the bottom bin of the signature with a co-deployed vector so that their TKE and RE stress match at that depth, can I assume the rest

of the signature profile calibrated the same way is accurate?

 

I think it is a question of behavior of Doppler noise profile.  Away from boundaries and with distances not too far from the probe (~10 m)

can I expect the Doppler noise to be distributed evenly over the beam cells?

Yes, to first order you can assume that the noise level is the same at all levels so it should be possible to come up with an estimate of TKE by subtracting the variance of the noise.
