Innovation

At Nortek, we always try to find new and creative solutions whenever we embark on a project. We have never been - and never will be - content to be "just another Doppler company". Instead, we strive to conceive ideas that let you measure new combinations of parameters, cut your costs or simply make your life more pleasant.

Z-Cell Nortek is the first company to introduce the Z-cell (Cell Zero), a velocity measurment collected at the level of the instrument.  The data are collected with an independent set of three 2 MHz transducers.  No more data loss close to the instrument!  2009
ADC Nortek, in cooperation with OTT Messtechnik, develops a handheld 6 MHz coherent point velocity system for river velocity measurements. The sensor includes built-in pressure sensor for automatic determination of the measurement level. 2007
SUV directional wave processing Nortek develops a new method for processing wave data that combines surface tracking data with velocity measurements. The method allows directional wave data to be collected from subsurface buoys that rotate. Patent applied for. 2006
4 beam velocimeter

The Nortek Vectrino is the first velocimeter to use four receivers. Based on an idea developed by Prof. Lemmin, the presence of the 4th receiver makes it possible to improve the spectral estimates of the three orthogonal velocity components.

2005
Parallel receivers in velocimeter

The Nortek Vectrino is the first velocimeter to use parallel receivers. This gives an immediate performance improvement of a factor of 4, allowing data to be collected at rates up to 200 Hz.

2004
Doppler discharge system without bottom tracking

The Nortek Qliner/Boogiedopp is the first Doppler system that does not use bottom track when measuring discharge in rivers. This eliminates a huge uncertainty element in the measurements due to "moving bottoms" and simplifies the measurement procedure.

2003
Surface tracking Nortek is the first company outside Japan to combine current profiling with direct wave measurements based on surface tracking 2002
Combined current and waves The Aquadopp profiler is the first instrument to combine data collection modes that combine standard current profiling and PUV wave data collection 2001
Ocean velocimeter integration The Vector was the first acoustic Doppler Velocimeter where the complete system, including sensors, recorders, and batteries was integrated into a single housing. 2000
Diagnostic mode The Aquadopp is the first current meter to introduce a special burst mode where you can collect information about mooring motion during long term deployments 1999
Molded transducers Transducer heads used to be machined to a fixed shape. At Nortek, we use plastic molding technology to make any transducer head configuration you want. 1999
Adjustable transmit power Nortek was the first company to introduce variable transmit power in our Doppler instrument. As a results, you save power and spend less batteries 1999
GPS vessel mounted solutions Nortek was the first company to provide high-quality current profiles on deep water survey vessels. The problem was solved by providing an integrated software solution that automates the calibration 1998
