Europe Sailing
As part of our community support programs in Norway, Nortek sponsors the development program for the dinghy "Europe", former Olympic dinghy class for Women and today the premier youth class in Scandinavia for 15-19 year olds.
After a brief set-back after the loss of Olympic status, the Europe has regained its status as the only real alternative for ambitious young sailors in Scandinavia. The main reasons for its popularity is that it is suitable for both large and not-so-large sailors (50-75 kg). At the same time as it offers an athletic form of sailing that prepares sailors for participation in Olympic classes. There are 90-100 ranked Europe sailors in Norway and more than 300 in all of Scandinavia. This means that strong competition is readily available with fleet races counting more than 50 boats being arranged 6-10 times each season. The class association organizes youth development programs that allow sailors dedicated to their sport to experience rapid technical progress while also focusing on general physical fitness.
